Day 6
The business trip of the FRIENDSHIP project in Slovenia began after leaving the city of Rijeka in Croatia and arriving in the city of Postojna in Slovenia. We were warmly welcomed by Jasmina Vidmar, Secretary General of the Association of Slovenian Cities. This travel program will mainly focus on best experiences in developing Sustainable Tourism.
First, we visited the farm of Andrejka Cerkvenik, who runs a medicinal plant farm in the place where her family has been for 200 years. She grows several types of medicinal herbs, culinary herbs, and fruits to produce pulp, spices, wine, and essential oils. Visitors are shown the farm in detail, taste the products and have their photos taken. The most important thing is that the cultivated plants and vegetables are eco-friendly, taste good, and do not use chemical fertilizers. Only the organic waste from the farm is used as compost. It is a business that has been passed down through the generations and is a form of sustainable tourism. In terms of payment, this farm charges 12-13 euros, similar to the Croatian meat farmer.
There are many families in Darkhan who grow vegetables and fruits in their yards and make a variety of salads and jams. But it is doubtful whether it is organic farming or not. Even if chemical fertilizers are not used, unsanitary conditions such as pit toilets and garbage dumps nearby are problematic. But there are many ways to solve it. One of them is that family farmers who have been proven by laboratory tests to not use chemical fertilizers, have eco-toilets, do not have open garbage dumps, sort their garbage in their yard can be registered with the Department of Tourism and visited by foreign and domestic tourists at the agreed price.
