The FRIENDSHIP project team visited the Waste Treatment Plant in Istanbul named ISTAC. https://www.istac.istanbul/en

ISTAC is the 5th largest energy producer in the world, 3rd in Europe, and the largest energy producer in Turkey by burning waste collected from 32 districts of Istanbul.

It also incinerates unsorted mixed waste at 850 degrees Celsius, separates the ash into light dry and wet heavy, and uses it as construction material according to Turkish standards.

The city of Istanbul has 16 million inhabitants and generates 18,000 tons of garbage per day, so burning it to generate energy is the most suitable solution for them. The company is a self-financing company owned by the Istanbul Municipality, and there are many things to learn in terms of management for our Darkhan city.

For Darkhan city, more than 50,000 tons of garbage are generated annually, so it is optimal to sort out the waste at the source, separate the recyclable waste, put it into economic circulation, and produce biogas by landfilling a small amount of unused household solid waste.
