Visited Pivka company, a subsidiary of the Jata Emona Group and a producer of egg and poultry products.
The Pivka company has more than 60 years of history, has a total of 500 employees, produces 100 million eggs per year, produces products in 25 countries and sells 11,058 tons of chicken meat per year. The annual sales revenue of the group is EUR 58.6 million and it is one of the 3 largest chicken meat producers in Slovenia.
Janez Rebecs, executive director of the factory, welcomed us and gave detailed information about the company’s activities.
A total of 14 shareholders own 60% of the company and the remaining 40% are owned by local farmers, which is a very important governance structure for the sustainable operation of the plant. In addition to monitoring the production of healthy food, the government provides policy support (especially investment). Nothing else depends on the government.
One of the good practices is that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Association of Food Producers work very well. While empowering entrepreneurs and working with universities, these associations approach the government to improve the policy and legal environment.
